Fundamental Instrumentation School – 101

This introductory course (16 hours) on instrumentation will provide entry-level professionals with an understanding of instrumentation technologies, terminology, and symbols needed to work in the field.  This class will be a combination of classroom and hands-on training on the PTU® (Process Training Unit), a full-scale, working process skid with on-line instrumentation and controls.  Attendees will be able to identify and discuss fully functional instruments such as: Pressure transmitters, Temperature transmitters, Magnetic flow meters, Vortex flow meters, Industrial control valves, Radar and guided wave radar, Coriolis mass flow meters, and more. 

  • This course will specifically cover:

    • Basic electricity required for Industrial Instrumentation
    • Safety
    • Series and parallel wiring
    • 2, 3, and 4 wire loops
    • Control signal types
    • 4-20ma current loops
    • Instrumentation wiring practices
    • Loop check performance
    • Industry specific terminology
    • Tools of the trade usage:
      • Loop simulator
      • Volt/ohm meter
      • Hand held HART communicator
      • Manufacturer specific configuration software
